It was a good week for Mavis Spencer at Blenheim Equisports’ Showpark Festival Series in Del Mar, as she won two Grand Prix classes on two different horses.

On Friday afternoon, Mavis took the win on Clochard, a nine-year-old gelding owned by Neil Jones Equestrian. It’s quite a new pairing, but the two have an instant, easy chemistry that made quick work of the 1.40m course designed by Mauricio Garcia. They did just as much as they needed to, and Clochard edged his closest competitor in the jump-off by less than half a second.

“He’s so quick and he’s so careful, I knew I had a shot and it was just a matter of going as fast as I felt comfortable going,” Mavis explained. “This is only my fourth show with him, but even though we were a little slow rolling back to the combination, I guess everyone else was just a bit slower today!”

On Saturday, Mavis switched gears but kept the heat on, winning the $25,000 August Festival Grand Prix aboard Neil Jones’ Chacco as the only clear round of the day.

“He’s so careful with so much scope that he really helped me out down some of the lines and over the back rails of some of the oxers,” said Mavis after her win. “Friday was my first grand prix win since getting back in the saddle after grooming, so to win two in one week is really exciting. And to do it on two different horses in the same week just goes to show how fortunate I am in the group of horses that I have right now and the people supporting me.”

Showpark has wrapped up for the summer season, but Blenheim will be back with more circuit series fun in two weeks at the Summer Classic at Rancho Viejo Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano.

Go Mavis, and Go Jumping!
