The weather in Wellington this weekend was less than ideal with rain cancelling many classes, but that didn’t stop 45 riders from giving it their all in the $134,000 Adequan Grand Prix CSI3* this Saturday. I tuned in from the comfort of my house and watched as the rain picked up with each ride, along with the competition.

From the get-go I had my list of front-runners, some of which lived up to expectations and others who fell victim to the weather or the evening’s course. As I watched Darragh Kenny and Classic Dream navigate the first round with impeccable precision, I found myself thinking that there was no way the duo could pick up the pace to be at the top of the jump off. Boy oh boy did Kenny prove me wrong! He guided the big chestnut around the track, executing several tight, but very important turns in a tidy manner. I was in awe as they navigated their way around the track with style and using the horse’s lengthy stride to their advantage, securing the win on the rainy evening.
