Wednesday Weekend Preview: WIHS, Royal West Calgary, Equita Lyon France

By far the best thing about ones life revolving around the hunter/jumper show circuit is that the show weekend starts on a Wednesday. That will just never get old. Our hump day is better than your hump day, other humans. Remember that.

Obviously we get pretty excited about WIHS here at JN. It’s a singular experience, and by far the most uplifting, non-partisan, lobbyist-free event in Washington, and frankly, the whole city needs a break from the election to enjoy their lives again. We’re happy we could oblige!

The qualified list for the big event includes Beezie Madden, Kent Farrington, and Mclain Ward, and the hunter stars have already been making a splash this week from the likes of Scott Stewart, John French, and Hillary Johnson. (Also, if you’re wondering who Beezie is bringing, here’s the not-so-inside scoop):

Royal West CSI3* in Calgary

The cool chinook winds have moved in across the Canadian plains and moved folks indoors, but that’s no reason for the fun to end in Canada’s horse capital. The Royal West Horse Show is a spectacular event that features an FEI North American League World Cup Qualifier in addition to all the other good fun.

Samuel Parot of Chile is the big-ticket rider at this event, defending his eye-popping FOUR wins at this event last year. He’ll be taking on a number of veterans and up-and-comers from Canada, the US, Ireland, Germany, and more.

Equita Lyon, France CSI5*

Another weekend, another indoor European five-star. It’s truly dizzying how much time those folks and horses must spend on planes and trains. As you might expect, it’s a star-studded list that includes Edwina Tops-Alexander, Roger Yves-Bost, Simon Delestre, Scott Brash, John Whitaker, the formidable German trio of Ahlmann, Deusser and Ehning, and Pogi Bucci, among other stars.
