For the second year in a row Tori Colvin came out on top at the USHJA International Hunter Derby Championships held in Lexington, Kentucky. That’s two years, two different horses and two challenging tracks that Colvin has dominated with style and poise. We’ve rounded her 2017 and 2018 handy rounds to drool over analyze her rides and see what sets her mounts apart.
In 2017, Colvin took home the victory above John and Stephanie Ingram’s 11-year-old gelding, Cuba, a whopping 10 points ahead of the second-place finisher with a final score of 583.24. With Geoffrey Hesslink and Amanda Steege hot on her heels, it all came down to the handy round in 2017 to garner Colvin the coveted title of Champion.
It’s not called a handy round for no reason. Watch as Colvin pilots Cuba with extreme precision around this very trying course, all the while making it look like the easiest thing in the world.
Congratulations to Tori Colvin and Cuba on winning the 2017 USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship after an outstanding Handy Round!

For 2018, Colvin returned to the Rolex Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park aboard Brad Wolf’s entry Private Practice. The duo had to face-off against 33 of the country’s best riders, but it was no sweat off of Colvin’s back. A sense of déjà vu engulfed the ring as Colvin jumped to the lead, yet again, with a final score 16.5 points greater than the Reserve Champion.
She sliced fences with such precision that she probably made several top jumper riders envious. Between her flawlessly executed round and the horse’s magnificent jump form, it’s no wonder they won the judges over with this beautiful round.
