The prize list for the 2020 Capital Challenge Horse Show has been released online. Entries are also open and can be submitted online. The 27th annual Capital Challenge Horse Show is be held September 25 – October 4 at the Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Malboro, MD.
The 10-day horse show kicks off on Friday, September 25, with Equitation Weekend, presented by BigEq.com, and featuring the EMO Insurance Agency/United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) 3’3″ Jumping Seat Medal Final – East, the Palm Beach International Academy (PBIA) North American Junior Equitation Championships, the North American Adult Amateur Equitation Championships, and the Taylor Harris Insurance Services (THIS) National Children’s Medal Finals.
Beginning on Monday, September 28, Capital Challenge will host the nation’s best hunter horses and riders for hunter division competition and the World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) Hunter Challenges. Throughout the week, the show will offer WCHR Hunter Challenge classes for amateurs, adults, juniors, children, ponies, professionals, and developing professionals.
This year’s $5,000 WCHR Developing Pro Challenge and the $25,000 WCHR Professional Challenge, sponsored by the Gochman Family, will be held on Wednesday, September 30. The top professional hunter riders in the country will also go head to head in the $10,000 WCHR Professional Finals on Friday, October 2, following the Ariat National Adult Medal Final that afternoon.
Each year, the up-and-coming stars of hunter sport are showcased at Capital Challenge in the $25,000 3′ and 3’3″ Green Hunter North American Championship, sponsored by the Wheeler Family. This year, the popular class will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 30.
This year, the Capital Challenge Horse Show will also welcome the North American League (NAL) Finals. The hunter finals will open the week with the $10,000 NAL Children’s Hunter Final to be held on Monday, September 28, and the $10,000 NAL Adult Hunter Final taking place on Tuesday, September 29. Thursday evening’s schedule will include the $10,000 NAL Children’s Jumper Final and the $10,000 Adult Amateur Jumper Final, while Saturday evening, October 3, will feature the $10,000 NAL Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Final.
“We are very pleased to find a home for 2020 at The Capital Challenge Horse Show since The Pennsylvania National Horse Show moved to Tampa, Florida,” said Annette Longenecker of Ryegate Show Services, which produces the NAL. “Keeping the NAL National Finals in the Northeast was very important to us for our exhibitors.”
An additional jumper class on the 2020 schedule is the $10,000 1.30m-1.35m Medium Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic.
