Lake Placid, NY – May 31, 2016 – The 47th annual Lake Placid Horse Shows, presented by Sea Shore Stables LLC, will host two amazing weeks of top horse show competition this summer beginning with the Lake Placid Horse Show on June 28-July 3 followed by the I Love New York Horse Show on July 5-10. Many of the special events and annual traditions that riders, owners and spectators look forward to each summer will continue this year.
Lake Placid is one of the premier stops on the nation’s hunter-jumper horse show circuit, featuring the nation’s best horses and riders competing in four show rings. The show hosts more than 100 classes of competition each week with all levels of competition ranging from leadline to grand prix. Both weeks are USEF ‘AA’ rated for hunters and 6* rated for jumpers and include nearly $550,000 in prizes.
Action begins at 8:00 AM each show day with classes running simultaneously in four separate rings until approximately 5:00 PM. Spectators can come for an hour or a whole day and see competition ranging from ponies ridden by tomorrow’s champions to members of the U.S. Equestrian Team atop some of the world’s best horses.
The two weeks kick off with the Lake Placid Horse Show on Tuesday, June 28, with the Sidelines 1.30m class in the Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field at 12 PM. Hunter and jumper classes take place in other rings throughout the day.
Wednesday, June 29, begins with the Lake Placid Summit Resort Hotel and Suites 1.30m, followed by the Dartbrook Rustic Goods 1.35m and the WPTZ News Channel 5 1.40m in the Grand Prix Field.
The Hampton Inn 1.35m will be held on Thursday, June 30 at 8:00 AM in the Grand Prix Field. Adult Amateur Jumper, Children’s Jumper, Green Hunter, Amateur Hunter and Small and Large Junior Hunters are held in the other rings throughout the day.
Friday, July 1, features the Pepsi Beverages Co. 1.35m Jumper at 8:00 AM followed by the Whiteface Mountain 1.40m. The $30,000 Lake Placid Open Jumper Classic presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC begins at 3:00 PM in the Grand Prix Field.

Competition continues on Saturday, July 2, with the CMJ Sport Horse $20,000 1.40 Open Stake I, followed by the High Peaks Resort Low Junior Jumper Classic, Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort Low Amateur Owner Jumper Classic and J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Adult Jumper Classic in the Grand Prix Field.
Sunday, July 3, concludes week one of the Lake Placid Horse Shows. The day begins with The Wild Center Children’s Jumper Classic, followed by the Mirror Lake Inn Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic. The Juliam Farm Leadline Class begins at 1:00 PM and is open to any child who has not yet reached their 7th birthday. The C.M. Hadfield’s Parade of Champions will start at 1:30 PM and is followed by the $75,000 Devoucoux Grand Prix of Lake Placid presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC. Beginning at 8:00 AM, the main hunter ring will feature the Michael Morrissey Enterprises North American League (NAL) Adult Amateur Hunter Classic – rounds 1 and 2; and round 1 of the Michael Morrissey Enterprises (NAL) Children’s Hunter Classic (14 & under and ages 15-17) and round 2 of the Michael Morrissey Enterprises (NAL) Children’s Hunter Classic.
On Monday, July 4, all horse show exhibitors are invited to ride on the Lake Placid Horse Show 4th of July Parade float down Main Street and attend the dazzling fireworks display over Mirror Lake.
The I Love New York Horse Show begins on Tuesday, July 5 and features the 1.30m class in the Grand Prix Field. Schooling jumper and performance working hunter will take place in other rings throughout the day.
Wednesday, July 6, includes the Lake Placid CVB 1.40m Open Stake followed by the iEquine Media, Inc 1.35m Jumper and the WPTZ News Channel 5 1.30m Jumper.
On Thursday, July 7, the Adirondack Life 1.35m will held in the Grand Prix Field followed by the Hollow Brook Wealth Management 1.40m and the $30,000 I Love New York Open Jumper Classic presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC. The Lake Placid Lodge 1.30m Jumper will be held in the E.R. Mische Jumper Ring at 8:00 AM.
The Milagro Tequila 1.35m Jumper and the FarmVet $20,000 1.40 Stake Class will be held in the Grand Prix Ring on Friday, July 8. Friday features the 24th annual Horse Club Junior Day. From 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM all local 4-H groups, pony clubs and riding clubs are invited to participate in a fun-filled day at the horse shows. The day includes activities such as a stable tour, course walk, farrier visit, and a question-and-answer period. There will also be a raffle, giveaways, and an autographed session with a Grand Prix rider. This event is a long-standing tradition of the Lake Placid Horse Shows giving back to the local community and a great way for local horse lovers to get a behind-the-scenes look at a premier hunter and 6* rated jumper show. The cost to attend the event is $5.00 per participant and it is open to the first 100 people on a first-come first-serve basis.The Best Overall Costume winners in the 2015 Doggie Costume Contest.
Saturday, July 9, features the Crowne Plaza Resort & Golf Club Lake Placid Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic in the Grand Prix Ring. At 12:00 PM the horse show’s 24th annual Doggie Costume Contest presented by The Brown Dog Deli & Wine Bar will be held near the Grand Prix Field will be open to all leashed dogs, free of charge, to compete to be one of this year’s “top dogs.” All canine contestants even get to take home their own ‘doggie bag’ filled with special doggie treats! At 2:00 PM The Clothes Horse Parade of Champions will beheld in the Grand Prix Ring followed by the $100,000 Equine Insurance Services/Great American Grand Prix presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC. The Wild Center Children’s Jumper Classic is held in the E.R. Mische Jumper Ring.Adrienne Iverson aboard Chapman ET, winners of the 2015 $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby presented by Eastern Hay & Purina Animal Nutrition.
Sunday, July 10, features the Bainbridge Farm Low Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic and the J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Adult Jumper Classic in the Grand Prix Field. The Main Hunter Ring and Kovacs Williams Ring include the Kathy Scholl Equitation Championship presented by Katy Levy & Family, $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby presented by Eastern Hay & Purina Animal Nutrition and the Pony Hunter Classic Round 2 presented by Beacon Hill Horse Transportation.
Admission to the horse shows is $2.00 on weekdays and $5.00 on weekends. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more. For a behind the scenes look at the shows, guided walking tours are offered Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30 AM. The tour groups meet at the LPHS retail booth, and tours last approximately 1 hour.
