In much of our sport – hunter or jumper – perfection can feel very unattainable. If I had a nickel for every time the winner of a grand prix class bemoaned that they could have gone faster or cut it closer or trusted their horse more, I’d be able to afford a grand prix show jumper.
It’s equally true in the hunters, where every fence is another chance to botch the distance, take a bad step, rub a rail, or miss a lead. But last year, Victoria Colvin and Way Cool managed to have the round of a lifetime and score a perfect 100 with both judges at the Upperville Colt and Horse Show in June, 2015.
The win came in a Large Junior Hunter – Handy class. The pair also won every other class that weekend they entered except the Under Saddle class, where they placed second. Way Cool won the Large Junior Hunter Division Championship, and Tori Colvin was named Best Junior Hunter Rider.
It doesn’t appear that Way Cool has been on the circuit in 2016, but we hope to see the lovely Hanoverian in action again soon.
