The Canadian Equestrian Federation has released the names of the 10 athletes competing in the equestrian disciplines at the Rio Olympics in less than a month.
The Show Jumping combinations are as follows:
Yann Candele of Caledon, Ontario on either Showgirl or First Choice 15, both owned by Watermark Group.
Tiffany Foster of North Vancouver, British Columbia on either Tripple XIII (owned by Artisan Farms LLC) or Victor (Owned by Artisan Farms LLC and Torrey Pines Stable)
Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, Ontario on either Fine Lady 5 owned by Artisan Farms LLC or Check Picobello Z, owned by Artisan Farms and Torrey Pines Stable.
Amy Millar of Perth, Ontario and Heros, owned by AMMO Investments
The traveling reserve rider is Kara Chad of Calgary, Alberta with Bellinda, owned by Stone Ridge Farms, Ltd.
The Chef d’Equipe is Mark Laskin. The final horse selections must be chosen by the closing date of July 18th.
As expected, Captain Canada and 10-time Olympian Ian Millar is not on the list, as his main horse was sideline for sinus surgery and was not fit to compete in time for the Olympics, but we are certain he’ll be rooting for his daughter Amy, who just made her first Olympic Team.
Tiffany Foster and Eric Lamaze are both returning Olympians, and are as thrilled as ever to find themselves in the selectors’ good graces.
“I am thrilled to be representing Canada in show jumping in Rio,” Tiffany said in a released statement. “The Olympics are the pinnacle of sport; for most athletes it starts as a dream, for the fortunate few it is then a goal and, for the lucky ones, it becomes a reality. I feel incredibly privileged to be one of those lucky ones. A huge thank you must be given to our incredible horse owners, our tireless support staff, and the hardworking individuals at Equestrian Canada who make it all possible. There may only be five people named to the Canadian Jumping Team, but the team that stands behind us consists of so many more. I’m looking forward to doing my very best in Rio and making Canada proud!”
It’s icing on the cake of an already stellar 24 hours for Eric Lamaze, who won the Turkish Air Grand Prix in Aachen last night aboard Fine Lady 5.
Congratulations to all those competing, and good luck on #TheRoadtoRio, team Canada!
