Mothers are warriors. When you have a baby, your orientation for everything you knew about the universe flies out the window, and all the expertise you had flies out the window as you learn about diapers and feedings and types of cries and the correct way to turn a baby into a blanket burrito. It’s all very overwhelming.

Which is why sometimes it’s actually kind of nice to get back to work after maternity leave. You hate to be too far out of sight of that new burping bundle you now call your whole universe, but it’s also nice to remember who you’ve been this whole time and dip your toe in familiar waters.

But seeing as Edwina Tops-Alexander is one of the best riders in the world and has a team and a string of horses depending on her, she bravely skipped the toe dip and went straight for the swan dive back into five-star show jumping, and we couldn’t be happier to have her back!

Edwina gave birth to her daughter Chloe at the end of July and now she’s back on the circuit, making her post-mom debut at the Longines Horse Show of Lausanne CSI 5* in Switzerland.

She’ll be riding two horses in the FEI classes: Sirius Du Granit, an 11-year-old bay Selle Francais stallion, and California, a 10-year-old dutch warmblood mare.  Alberto Zorzi and Roberto Previtali, both of Italy, have been keeping her string fresh in her absence.

We wish Edwina a safe and happy return, and can’t wait to see her in the winner’s circle again soon!
