Window Decorating Contest and Doggie Costume Contest Return to Lake Placid This Year
Lake Placid, NY – May 13, 2016 – The 47th annual Lake Placid Horse Shows, presented by Sea Shore Stables LLC, not only host two amazing weeks of top equestrian competition, but also many special events that riders, owners and spectators look forward to each summer.
“Come for the horse show, stay for all Lake Placid has to offer,” says Richard M. Feldman, Chairman of the Lake Placid Horse Shows Association.
The Lake Placid Horse Show runs June 28-July 3, highlighted by the $75,000 Devoucoux Grand Prix of Lake Placid on Sunday, July 3. The I Love New York Horse Show follows, July 5-10, featuring the $100,000 Equine Insurance Services/Great American Grand Pix on Saturday, July 9.
Lake Placid has so much to offer outside the show grounds, making it the ideal vacation spot for families coming to the horse show. Horse show exhibitors are totake advantage of all the outdoor activities available in Lake Placid including hiking, golfing, fishing, boating, tubing, paddling, swimming, cycling, rock climbing and more! Visitors can even travel back in time and tour Lake Placid’s Olympic sites, reliving when Lake Placid was home to the 1980 Olympic Winter Games.
There are so many vendors on site at the horse show that no one has to leave the grounds to shop. However, if you want to experience the best shopping in the Adirondacks, you can take a stroll down Main Street. From antiques to jewelry, gifts to sporting goods, you will find a little bit of everything as well as a variety of dining options for every palate.
You will also notice shop owners participating in the horse show’s 29th annual Equestrian Window Decorating Contest. Each summer, Lake Placid village businesses show off their equine inspired storefront window displays that exhibit artistic and creative talent for the contest occurring concurrently with the horse shows. The equestrian theme window displays are immensely popular with horse show participants, spectators, and shoppers as local businesses welcome members of the horse show community to town.
“The window contest allows Lake Placid Village shop owners to be more involved with the horse show festivities as they decorate their store fronts with equestrian-inspired decorations,” said Feldman. “It has become one of our most prized traditions and provides a charming spectacle for everyone walking down Main Street!”
Everyone also enjoys Lake Placid’s traditional 4th of July Parade down Main Street followed by the dazzling fireworks display over Mirror Lake, an event no one wants to miss! All horse show exhibitors are invited to be part of the parade by signing up to ride on the Lake Placid Horse Shows float!
The annual Doggie Costume Contest, sponsored by The Brown Dog Café &Wine Bar, is back for its 24th year! Held on Sunday, July 10 at noon near the Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field, the contest invites all leashed dogs to participate, free of charge, and to compete to be one of this year’s “top dogs.” All canine contestants even get to take home their own ‘doggie bag’ filled with special doggie treats!
Admission to the horse shows is $2.00 on weekdays and $5.00 on weekend days. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more. For a behind the scenes look at the shows, guided walking tours are offered Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. The tours groups meet at the LPHS retail booth, and last approximately 1 hour.
