In Antwerp the last class has been ridden, and a thrilling jump-off gave us a winner from Great-Britain. Michael Whitaker took the lead, and nobody could beat him to it. He came into the arena with JB’s Hot Stuff (by Locarno 62) and went through the finish in 37.20 seconds.
A few hundredth of seconds slower came the German world number one Daniel Deusser. He had under his saddle his partner Cornet d’Amour (by Cornet Obolensky) and had a time of 37.57 seconds. The fastest to go in the first round was Piergiorgio Bucci, who ultimately ended his weekend in third place aboard the stunning Casallo Z (by Casall).
The fourth place ribbon was for the Swedish rider Hendrik von Eckermann with Cantinero (by Cento) with a time of 38.06 seconds. The top five was completed by the French lady Penelope Leprevost. She rode Vagabond de La Pomme (by Vigo D’Arsouilles Stx) around the second phase in 38.62 seconds.
The lone American in town for the event Kent Farrington and Sherkan brought down a rail in the first round to end their day in 20th. Tiffany Foster of Canada and Cadalora P landed in 28th with a rail of their own, and Eric Lamaze and Chacco Kid were the fastest of the 8-fault rounds to finish in 33rd.
