While it’s a quieter week on the national homefront, there’s a full slate of five star events in not just one but two European countries, and one promises an epic showdown between the top ten riders in the world. Buckle your seatbelts, show jumping fans. We’ve got a wild ride ahead of us.
CHI Geneva and IJRC Top Ten
Geneva, Switzerland will be hosting some of the sport’s finest in the largest indoor equestrian Arena on Earth as they tackle a slew of five-star classes, including the third leg of the Rolex Grand Slam, loads of Table A classes, Six Bars, Accumulators, and the highlight of the weekend, the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final – an invitation only event open to only the 10 best ranked riders in the world. The top ten riders entered in the event are:
Christian AHLMANN (GER), Simon DELESTRE (FRA), Kent FARRINGTON (USA), Daniel DEUSSER (GER), Eric Lamaze (CAN), Marcus Ehning (GER), Kevin Staut (FRA), Penelope LEPREVOST (FRA), Scott BRASH (GBR), Steve Guerdat (SUI).
Kent Farrington was last year’s Top 10 Final Winner and is back this year to defend his title. Scott Brash will also be defending a title, as the current leg winner of the Rolex Grand Slam (he won the 2nd leg in Spruce Meadows this summer) and also the only rider to ever win the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping by winning three legs in a row.
La Coruña Casas Novas Horse Show, Spain CSI5*-W
If they’re not in Geneva, they’re in Spain. Several grand prix classes and an FEI World Cup Qualifier are all on the docket for the weekend, and have attracted the likes of Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS), Nicola Philippaerts (BEL), Patrice Delaveau (FRA), Julien Epaillard (FRA), Ludger Beerbaum (GER), Ben Maher (GBR), Athina Onassis, and from the U.S., Katherine Dinan, Lauren Hough, and Chloe Reid.
