The HITS Culpeper August Series wrapped up with the Constitution Classic at Commonwealth Park on Sunday, August 23, which featured a $35,000 Open Jumper division, Hunter Prix qualifiers for the HITS Championship, and Marshall & Sterling League qualifying classes. Exhibitors enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at Commonwealth Park and took full advantage of the ample riding, lunging and grazing areas at thie historic facility in the ‘Heart of Virginia’s Horse Country’.

Tracy Magness led the way at the Constitution Classic as she won the $5,000 HITS Open Welcome aboard Chopin Du Chateau Hollogne Z as they crossed the timers in 41.769. In second place were Andrew Kocher and Kapriool [4-Faults, 39.193]. Tricia O’Connor and KT Adonis took third [4-Faults, 41.135].
Moving up in the standings from his second place finish on Wednesday, August 19 and claiming the win for the second week in a row in the $10,000 HITS Prix on Friday was Kocher aboard Camryn. Kocher crossed the timers in 38.220 to secure the blue ribbon. Jamie Gibson secured the red ribbon with Suntendra SN, [40.477], and Grace Long claimed third with Happiness VD Hazel Hof [40.535].
Madison Smyth was awarded first place in the HITS Culpeper Equitation Classic on Saturday afternoon, August 22 with a score of 82. The HITS Culpeper Equitation Classic is designed for Junior, Amateur, Children’s, and Adult riders showing at 3’ or 3’6”, offering a unique chance for riders to compete against each other. Camden Kitchens won second place [73], and Addison Reed was close behind to claim third place [72].
Returning to the Winner’s Circle to accept top honors in the $20,000 HITS Open Prix was Magness for her ride aboard Intenz Van HD. Featured jumper competition came to a close at the Constitution Classic as Magness crossed the timers in 37.633. Kocher and Connor 69 were close behind to claim second place [37.716]. Kocher also claimed third place on his other mount, Kapriool [39.779].
The Constitution Classic was host to the $1,500 Devoucoux Hunter Prix and $1,000 Platinum Performance Hunter Prix, along with Marshall & Sterling Finals League classes and classics.
It was a one-two finish for Jennifer Tate in the $1,500 Devoucoux Hunter Prix, a qualifier for the $250,000 Diamond Mills Hunter Prix Final. Top honors were awarded to Tate for her ride aboard Caspari with scores of 84 and 86 for a total of 170. Tate additionally secured second place with a second mount, Carsten S [163]. Meanwhile, Winn Alden won third aboard Kygo [125].
Next up in the Main Hunter Ring was the Platinum Performance Hunter Prix, a qualifier for the $100,000 Platinum Performance Hunter Prix Final, which is open to Junior and Amateur riders. First place was awarded to Katie McAfee and Cappuccino. McAfee scored a 77 in the first round and 85 in the second round for a two-round total of 162. Isabella Bertozzi piloted Cousteau to a second place finish [158], and Kirsten Tillotson took third aboard Waterlily [157].
