We are heading into the second week and the 15th leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour at Šamorín, Slovakia, held in the gorgeous X-Bionic Sphere. With everything from a CSI2* 1.10/1.15m all the way up to the 1.60m LGCT Grand Prix Week II, this is going to be an incredible show. The first week ended with a bang in the LGCT Grand Prix Week I, with American Spencer Smith on the 14 year old Selle Francais gelding Theodore Manciais edging out Christian Ahlmann on his 11 year old Zanbersheided stallion Dominator 2000 Z by a mere .02 seconds! Yur Vrieling took third on his flashy ten year old Belgian Sport Horse Fiumicino Van De Kalevallei, while Jessica Springsteen claimed fourth with her Olympic partner, Belgian WB stallion Don Juan van de Donkhoeve. Spencer moved up the rankings, but the title for LGCT Champion will be fought between Ben Maher and Peder Fredricson this week.
The Global Champions League battle also continues, with the Doha Falcons (Bassem Mohammed and Yuri Mansur) topping the podium in both the GCL Round 1 and Round 2 of Week I! However, the rankings for GCL Champions remain with Valkenswaard United in first, Shanghai Swans second, Paris Panthers in third, and the London Knights in fourth.
Altogether there were eight CSI5* competitions, with a different person/team winning each one. Given the talent, both equine and human, currently inhabiting the X-Bionic Sphere, this is not surprising! Let’s scroll through some of the pictures and videos from that first week, revealing not only the best in the sport and their thoughts on the upcoming competitions, but also letting us see the incredible city of Šamorín.
Ok, we know this is from last year but Yur Vrieling isn’t super at updating his Instagram so there isn’t anything very recent to show. HOWEVER, there is this crazy video of him jumping Zimbabwe Z in a Puissance at 2.0m!!
