We are deeply saddened to confirm that Wednesday August 31, Becca Weissbard of Manorville, NY died of injuries sustained in a fall at HITS Saugerties. She was 22 years old.

HITS Horse Shows has confirmed that the incident was during a 1.0 meter jumping class at the Hits on the Hudson series. Emergency vehicles were called at approximately 2:00 p.m. ET after she fell and sustained serious injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Kingston Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The nature of the fall has not been released.

HITS released the following statement Thursday morning:

"It is with great sadness that HITS informs the equestrian community of an accident involving a talented young athlete at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York, on August 31, 2016. The athlete suffered a fatal fall during a 1.0m Jumper Class in Jumper Ring 1.

HITS extends its deepest sympathy to the athlete’s family and to the entire horse sport community who feels the impact of this significant loss."

Becca was a member of Sundance Stables, owned by her family, and was a beloved member of the New York horse community. She represented the United States at the Maccabiah Games in Israel in 2013 to win an individual Gold Medal in show jumping. She had won a class earlier in the day at HITS.

Our hearts are with her friends and family and all who knew and loved her in this unspeakably hard time.
