As of May 28, 2020, HITS Saugerties and the Vermont Summer Festival needed final approval from the USEF to officially go ahead with the running of the Great American Summer Series, a collaboration between HITS and VSF. On June 6, HITS and VSF received that final approval.

The Great American Summer Series will take place July 1 – August 9, offering six weeks of showing and nearly $2 million in prize money. Each week will feature classes for hunters and jumpers, including:
- Three $100,000 Grand Prix
- Three $200,000 Grand Prix
- Three $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derbies
- Two World Championship Hunter Rider weeks
