Beezie Madden is no stranger to smashing wins in the showjumping ring. At the time of this writing, she stands in 8th place in the Longines rankings. However, it’s Beezie’s partner Darry Lou that we turn our attention to today. Darry Lou has been named FEI Horse of the Month – and he has certainly earned that title.

Darry Lou is a 2008 Dutch Warmblood, bred by Roelof Bril. He is by Tangelo Van de Zuuthoeve and out of Venus, both successful jumpers. Some of Darry Lou’s notable accomplishments include major wins at Spruce Meadows in 2019, and he clinched the win at the Longines FEI Nations Cup last month. He also won the USEF 2019 International Horse of the Year award.
Beezie acquired the ride on Darry Lou in 2017; the stallion originally competed in Mexico with Alberto Aldana and his successes attracted many to his scope, intelligence, and athleticism. Nick Dello Joio returned from Mexico with a video of him, Beezie tried him, and long-time friend and owner Abigail Wexner made the purchase. The partnership was cemented.

Darry Lou’s character is one that Beezie considers herself incredibly lucky to work with. She has stated, “He is sweet…He jumps in beautiful style. He’s quiet and yet he has enough blood that he can jump all week long.” Darry Lou continues to step up to the plate for his rider and tries his heart out. He does “absolutely everything” she asks of him.
