FEI has named the Global Horse of the Month for April! This month, the honor goes to Caillou 24, the 13 year old powerhouse grey gelding ridden by Karl Cook and owned by Karl’s mother, Signe Ostby. Caillou 24 and Karl have had a six year partnership thus far, and it’s still going strong with no signs of slowing down. The gelding has established himself as the #1 horse in Karl’s barn, Pompiano Ranch.
Caillou 24 was born in Germany in 2007, by Olympic show jumping Holsteiner sire Casall, out of Carefree. He began ridden life with Germany’s Mirian Schneider before moving to the USA and the next stage of his career with Karl’s team. His groom Jenni Giannini reveals that he “isn’t a complicated kind of guy; he’s simple to care for as he thrives on consistency.” Caillou 24 and Karl Cook would have gone on to compete in the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ in Las Vegas, qualifying at the top of the table in the North American Western Sub League.
