Great stories in this weekend’s lineup:
Catherine Tyree will be making her Nations Cup team debut. The 23-year-old has been tearing up the U25 divisions around the country and also giving the full Grand Prix division competitors a run for their money, including winning a four-star FEI class at the Washington International Horse Show this past fall. She will be riding the same formidable partner, Bokai, a beautiful gray Dutch Warmblood who was previously the ride of Harrie Smolders.
Emily Moffit makes her British citizenship debut. Dual citizen Emily Moffit announced recently that she’s decided to switch teams from riding as an American and will now ride for Great Britain, where she hopes she’ll stand a better chance of making an Olympic or World Championship team. Her new teammates in Wellington include Jessica Mendoza, Amanda Derbyshire, and Samuel Hutton.
Four Teams are all men, one is all women, and two are mixed. Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, and Ireland have only men on their teams. The US Team (Ali Wolff, Catherine Tyree, Chloe Reid, and Georgina Bloomberg) is entirely composed of women, and Canada and Great Britain included men and women on their teams. Di Lampard of Great Britain is the only female Chef ‘Equipe.
Laura Kraut will be retiring Olympic Partner Cedric. Just prior to the start of the Nations Cup, Laura Kraut and Cherry Knoll Farms will be holding a brief ceremony to celebrate the illustrious career of Cedric, Laura’s gold medal teammate. The 19-year-old Holsteiner gelding won more than $2 million during his career, and won the hearts of many.
