This week we thought we would look at two iconic show jumping events: the CHI Geneva and the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping. The Grand Slam Masters is a series that has only been won by a single horse and rider combination, in 2016-2017: Scott Brash and Hello Sanctos. One of its original three legs is in Switzerland, at the CHI Geneva, happening this week. The CHIO Aachen World Equestrian Festival and the CSIO Spruce Meadows Masters are the other two original venues, with the Dutch Masters in s‑Hertogenbosch added in 2018.

With a recess last year for COVID, the Geneva International Horse Show is back on! The show began in 1926 and includes driving and eventing along with show jumping. Aside from being the fourth leg of the Grand Slam Masters, Geneva itself is a coveted destination for top riders, and includes ten CSI5* classes, three national-level classes, and three CSI Under-25 classes. It’s going to be an exciting week, so we have gathered some of the images and videos from the previous three Masters for this year as well as from CHI Genève in years past. Enjoy!

First up in March was the Dutch Masters, where Austria’s Max Kühner and Elektric Blue P won the Rolex Grand Prix with a blistering jump off that put him ahead of Brazilian Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and VDL Edgar M, who took second, leaving third-place to German Christian Kukuk and Checker 47.

The second leg was in Calgary at the Spruce Meadows Masters, in September. Here Swiss Steve Guerdat and Venard de Cerisy were able to best the likes of Mclain Ward, Kent Farrington, Scott Brash, Christian Kukuk, Nayel Nasser, Erynn Ballard…well, you get the point.

Next up was the CHIO of Aachen, also in September, where Germany’s Daniel Deusser and his spectacular Killer Queen VDM won the Rolex Grand Prix.

And now we turn to Geneva, where world-ranked number one Peder Fredericson will battle it out against Deusser, ranked second, and third-ranked Henrik von Eckermann. Many others will be giving those three a run for the(ir) money: Roger-Yves Bost, Scott Brash, Laura Kraut, Kent Farrington, Jessica Springsteen, Kevin Staut…well, again, you get the picture! It’s going to be a heck of a week! Here are some images from events that have already happened and from years past at this storied show.
