Laura Chapot took an early lead in the class, riding Zealous fault-free over the nine-jump power portion of the course and then turning in a clean ride in 33.410 seconds over the seven-jump speed section. Tromp then took over the lead with a blazing time of 31.175 seconds.

Tromp’s time held up through the rest of the class, giving him the win. Chapot’s time on Zealous was good for second place with third place going to Andrew Kocher who finished clean in 34.430 seconds on C’Havinia. Chapot also finished fourth with the fastest four-fault ride in 32.598 seconds on Shooting Star.

Wednesday action in the Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field also included the $1,500 iEquine Media, Inc. 1.35m Jumper Class which was won by Laura Chapot on Umberto. After 12 of 27 horses reached the jump-off with clean rides, Chapot then turned in the fastest clean ride in the jump-off. Her time of 31.551 seconds edged the 32.678 turned in by Jeff Welles on Broken Heart. Andrew Kocher finished third with a clean ride in 33.106 seconds on Coconut and Margie Engle was fourth with a clean ride in 33.543 on Indigo.

In the $1,200 WPTZ News Channel 5 1.30m Jumper Class, Andrew Kocher topped a field of 40 horses with the fastest clean ride over the one-round course. He finished in 49.837 seconds on Tresor Platiere to claim the win over Michael Hughes who finished in 52.368 seconds on Casa De La Marta Bay. Third place went to Mattias Tromp who was clean in 52.402 seconds on Fantom and Jimmy Torano was fourth with a clean ride in 53.686 seconds on Zena D.

The High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jump-off class was won by Catherine Tyree on Don’t Go. Tyree was one of six of the 24 entries to reach the jump-off and she turned in another clean ride in the fastest time of 30.937 seconds to take the win.

The I Love New York Horse Show runs through Sunday, highlighted by the $100,000 Equine Insurance Services/Great American Grand Pix on Saturday, July 9. Saturday also features the horse show’s 24th annual Doggie Costume Contest presented by The Brown Dog Cafe & Wine Bar. Everyone who brings a leashed dog in costume on Saturday is admitted to the horse show free of charge. The Doggie Costume Contest starts at 12:00 noon near the Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field. There is no entry fee and prizes are awarded for the top contestants. All entries receive a ‘doggie bag’ filled with special doggie treats!

Admission to the horse show is just $2.00 on weekdays and $5.00 on weekends. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more. For a behind the scenes look at the horse show, guided walking tours are offered on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. The tour groups meet at the horse show retail booth, and the tours, costing just $1.00, last approximately one hour.
