VDL Introduces Trigon Foal Auction

On Friday, July 17, 2020, Stal Tops, the Van de Lageweg family, and Frederik de Backer launched a new auction platform, Trigon Auctions.  The platform offers breeders and investors the opportunity to sell and buy foals, two and three year-old horses, broodmares, frozen embryos, and sport horses in recurring auctions throughout the year.

Expertise:

The constellation of three experts in their field make Trigon Auctions stand out. Stal Tops, owned by Olympic gold medalist and founder of the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour, a leading stud farm carrying four Olympic medals from their stallions and a renowned auctioneer and horse sport commentator, work together to create the outlet. “It is the first time that three players in different fields join forces to support breeders in the sales of their foals and assist clients in choosing the right investment. This is literally the bridge between breeders and buyers,” says co-founder of Trigon Auctions, Janko Van de Lageweg of the VDL Stud whose family also organize the well-respected WEF Sporthorse Auction in cooperation with Equestrian Sport Productions and partner in the successful De Wolden Summer Sale during CH De Wolden.

Transparency:

“Online auctions are a fairly new medium to buy and sell horses and the market has grown in size and scope over the last years. Selling or buying online requires enormous trust between the client and the auction house as well as between the breeder/seller and the auction house.  By selecting very strictly and only allowing correct foals to enter the auction we set an easy to follow benchmark turning an online purchase as confidential as a live purchase.

“Our breeders have set a reserve price and if that price isn’t met, the foal is not sold and it is also announced as not sold. It is a transparency we want to set as a standard to our breeders and clients.  By dividing our foal collections into groups we want to create clear distinction between the foals. Group 1 foals are sired by proven stallions from exceptional sport families.  Group 2 foals can be sired by young upcoming stallions or out of less known sports families. We fully support these foals as they have just as well a chance to become a successful sport horse. It is our way of giving young stallions a platform,” explains Frederik de Backer.

Breeders & Buyers Premium:

“We have to reward those that make the wheel go round. That is why we have decided to invest 20.000€ per year in the Breeders & Buyers Premium. Horses competing in the international sport will be eligible to participate in the Premium. The money will be split equally over the breeder of the horse and the buyer on Trigon Auctions. This initiative will support the breeders and the buyers who have shown the confidence to invest in Trigon Auctions,” is the opinion of the Founders.
