You don’t often see winning round formats in the jumper ring anymore. Wanting to give the crowd the best opportunity to watch heated competition, the Washington International Horse Show opted to go for the less traditional format in their $40,000 International Jumper Welcome Stake on Thursday night.
In the winning round format the top ten riders, no matter the number of faults they may have incurred in the first round, return for a jump-off. The competition was stiff with riders such as Beezie Madden, Laura Kraut and Devin Ryan in the order of go, but it would be young-gun Catherine Tyree who would prevail riding Bokai. The duo laid down a lightning-fast second round to top the class at 34.88 seconds, just .12 seconds faster than second place finisher, Beezie Madden.
Watch how they won! Catherine Tyree and Bokai stole the first International Jumper event of #WIHS2018 this evening… #WIHS2018 #horsesinthecity #WIHSturns60 #FEIworldcup #Longines
