“He’s naturally an incredibly fast horse, so in the speed classes you have a little bit of an advantage. Santiago is a very fast rider, but this horse is, I think, the fastest horse I’ve ever ridden. I knew turning for home we were very fast, and if things come up basically as you want, he’s just naturally faster than most horses, so you don’t have to do anything extraordinary.”
McLain Ward and Catoki may still be relatively new in their partnership together, but they have had no trouble figuring out how to switch gears. This dynamic duo have gone two-for-two so far at WEF, and I don’t imagine they will be holding back any time soon. Ward claims that this horse (owned by Ward in partnership with Marilla van Beuren and Bob Russell) just might be the fastest horse that he has ever ridden. Want to decide for yourself? Check out their winning round in last week’s $37,000 Bainbridge Companies 1.45m CSI3* where the pair came in almost a full two seconds faster than the reserve champion.
