A good horse is a good horse. In the last couple of decades with the refinement of purpose-bred sporthorse breeding, much of the hunter jumper world has turned away from thoroughbreds. Why buy an ex-racehorse if you can buy something bred specifically for the job? Because thoroughbreds have a huge amount to offer. If you’re working on a budget, OTTBs can be an excellent option. They tend to be extremely clever, quick on their feet, and often hard to beat in jump-offs. Contrary to what many people think, not all thoroughbreds are hot and energetic; in fact I’ve had more than one that are quite lazy!
Check out some OTTBs for sale this week, located in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Maryland, respectively.

Cali
Cali is an 8 year old chestnut OTTB mare standing at 15.3 hands. She has four white socks and a blaze with some light roaning as well. She is sound and has no vices. She would work best with an intermediate rider but is good with kids and has experience. She has been out of work for about a little less than a year because I am in college and no longer am able to give her the time she deserves. She has schooled 2’9” and has cross country experience.

He is currently in the process of getting back into the swing of things after his transition from track life. He needs a bit of muscle but Flip is going to be a looker in no time. No vices.
