Weekly Sales Circuit: Pony Jumper Power

I wish pony jumpers had more popularity at US hunter/jumper shows compared to internationally.  In the US, we see plenty of kids on ponies in the hunters, and then they tend to transition up to horses and either stay in the hunters or do eq.  Maybe it comes down also to the unique requirements of a actual pony jumper class — the height is over 1.05m (3’5″), which can look immense on a pony, and some spitfire (from both mount and rider) are needed to be competitive.  Also, riders must be under the age of 18.  I spent a couple of years riding my trainer’s medium Welsh/TB pony, who really isn’t a kid’s pony and could jump higher than the horse I owned at the time — but because of my age, we showed in the adult jumpers.  Would have been super fun to go up strictly in pony courses!

Here are some ponies who can jump the moon, perfect for a small adult or a gutsy junior looking to do the jumpers.  These ponies are from Florida, Missouri, and Maryland.

Highlife’s Levi

2006 12.3h German Warmblood gelding. Amazing winning jumper pony. Sadly, his rider for the last four years is growing too large for his best friend. Levi brings home the champion ribbon in every single show he attends, most recently 1st place at Tryon for the 2020 Summer Series back to back weeks and Circuit Champion at HITS in Ocala, FL competing only 1/2 the season. He has competed and consistently won up to Low Children and wins ever mini-Grand Prix he enters. Easy to catch, shoe, clip, bathe, and load. Lives for treats, easy keeper, and turns out with any other horse(s). Takes a top level competitor to the winner’s circle every time.

Legacy’s Finnegan McMor

2010 13.3h Connemara gelding. He has a permanent pony card and a lifetime membership with USHJA and is microchipped. Absolutely loves to jump. He excels in the jumper ring and would be an excellent eventer,. He could also do the hunters and eq. He could go any direction as long as he still gets to jump. He has shown up to 1.10m. He has also done some dressage and scored in the high 70’s. He needs a rider who is confident/brave. Beginners have started riding him, and he is so kind to them. He is a sassy pony but will jump his heart out for his rider. He is more naturally forward when it comes to jumping but he is normally pretty laid back. Has been ridden in a snaffle. Owner has raised him since he was 4 years old; he has a solid foundation in dressage and classical training. He has a lot to offer and could really teach someone how to ride. Has the talent to go to pony finals.  Very easy keeper, has never had shoes, and has very tough feet. He is current on all shots, worming and teeth and no vices. Owner has sadly outgrown him.

Benny & The Jets

2006 13.3h German Riding Pony gelding. Pony jumper and made kid’s fox hunter. USEF registered, microchipped, and permanent measurement card. Has done numerous USEF rated jumpers up to 1.0m; Pony Clubbed and fox hunted for 4 years with Elkridge-Harford Hounds 1st and 2nd flight. Benny has a horse stride, forward thinking ride, and is looking for a kid who likes to be taken to the jump without a lot of fuss. Has won the 2019 3 ft Harrisburg Colonial Classic division in September 2019 and 3rd in the 2018 USEF Stirrup Cup. Benny does it all in a hackamore, barefoot with no vices. Benny has also participated in Pony Club show jumping rallies and been to the USPC East Coast Championships at Tyron in 2019 for 3 ft Developing Rider Division. Ready for his next talented jumping kid. Lease considered.
