Lexington, Ky. – June 6, 2017 – Kentucky Horse Shows LLC, is pleased to announce that the prize list for the 2017 Kentucky Summer Series is currently available online. The series features five weeks of competition, with four premier hunter/jumper events hosted by Kentucky Horse Shows LLC, and three championship competitions organized by U.S. Equestrian Federation and the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA). The prize list and entry forms are posted at www.kentuckyhorseshows.com.
Hunter/jumper competition will begin July 26-30 with the Kentucky Summer Horse Show, the first week of the summer series. Part of the USHJA National Hunter Derby Series is the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, also sponsored by World Equestrian Center and a qualifying class of eleven towards the $30,000 Leading Rider Awards for professionals and amateurs. Highlights of the week for jumpers include the $50,000 Rood & Riddle Kentucky Grand Prix and the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic, which is part of the Hagyard Challenge Series, sponsored by Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. A $50,000 Leading Rider Bonus will be awarded to the jumper athlete who accumulated the most points in the classes that make up the series. Also, the $10,000 Under 25 Grand Prix is available for younger jumper exhibitors.
The series will continue with the Kentucky Summer Classic held August 1-6, 2017. The $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic will be held Thursday, August 3 followed by the $50,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix, presented by GGT Footings on Saturday evening, August 5 in the Rolex Stadium. For the hunters there is the $5,000 WEC/Kentucky Horse Shows USHJA National Hunter Derby in the Stonelea Ring.
Following the 2017 U.S.E.F. Pony Finals, the third week of the series is the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show. This week features both the USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship from August 17-19 and the Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championship from August 15-17. Riders will also compete for valuable year-end points during the World Champion Hunter Rider week, which concludes with another $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby on Sunday. Jumper highlights include the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic and the $40,000 Bluegrass Festival Grand Prix, sponsored by Audi of Lexington.
The Kentucky Summer Series will come to a close with the KHJA Horse Show from August 23-27. The $10,000 Hagyard Welcome Stake is scheduled Thursday, August 24 in the Rolex Stadium and will be followed on Sunday, August 27 by both the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby and the $30,000 KHJA Grand Prix. All shows in the summer series are qualifying events for the Washington International Championships and the North American League Finals.
