Welcome to our new series, “Ride of the Week” brought to you by our friends at Hallway Feeds, where we feature the absolute best rounds the hunter jumper universe has to offer. These clips are not only a thrilling spectacle of the world’s very best competitors at the top of their game, but also a valuable learning tool.
This week we are featuring not just one but two magnificent performances from the Longines Global Champions Tour: a split screen comparison of jump-off rounds between winner Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE) and runner-up Simon Delestre (FRA) in the LGCT Paris Eiffel CSI5* class.
Simon and Hermes Ryan briefly hold the lead with a quicker stride to the third fence, but Rolf and Casall ASK immediately make up the ground in the turn and go stride-for-stride to 4a and 4b. It’s a hard rollback turn to fence 5, and Rolf and Casall make a death-defying hairpin turn in the air over the MONSTROUS Renault vertical to claim a half-second lead in just a single fence.
The winning pair finish the course without giving up a single fraction of the lead gained over fence 5 and claim more than €100,000 in prize money for the class. The win also pops Rolf into the #2 slot behind Christian Ahlmann (GER) in the Global Champions Tour Rankings.
