Laura Kraut won for the Rome Gladiators in Madrid last year – Can she do it again? PC: Stefano Grasso/LGCT
It’s Madrid week on the Longines Global Champions Tour, and it’s going to be a week of heavy hitters! The European contingent will be out in force for the first stop in the home continent, and some of the teams are certain to see a boost in the rankings after the weekend. There are also six strong Americans playing for the win in Madrid, as well.
The Mexico Amigos are currently just outside the top ten, but could see a boost with the likes of Henrik Von Eckermann and Christian Ahlmann at the helm. The Cannes Stars are packing plenty of star power in the likes of German compatriots Ludger Beerbaum and Marco Kutscher, and the Paris Panthers will be starting an All-American line-up in Lillie Keenan and Hardin Towel.
Chantilly Pegasus are sitting in sixth for the season thus far, but I’ve got a good feeling about the Sergio Alvarez Moya / Lucy Davis lineup. I predict good things from this team, especially with Sergio having the home field advantage.
Other Americans In the Field: Laura Kraut returns to captain the Rome Gladiators (eighth), Kerry McCahill will be repping for the Vienna Eagles (tenth), and Audrey Coulter will be playing hard in Europe this season for the Hamburg Diamonds, sitting in striking distance of the lead in fourth.
Stay tuned for more from LGCT Madrid! (Here’s a sneak peak of the turf *squeals with anticipation, faints.*)
