Teaching a horse to have confidence over the jumps takes time and often a bit of creativity. Brendan Wise took his creativity to a whole new level with this “monkey see, monkey do” methodology and unfortunately it didn’t go quite as planned.
Thankfully, no one was harmed and everyone got a good giggle out of the incident. It appears as if the horse actually has a pretty cute jump, a good amount of scope, and doesn’t let distractions in the ring scare him off of the task at hand.
As for Brendan, several people commented that perhaps dressage would be more suited to his skillset. Brendan chimed in that he should have probably kept his eyes up and ahead, but hey we all have to have a little fun at the barn now and then!
Lesson learned: let’s leave the jumping to the horses.
