While many of equestrians are strictly hyper-focused on the task at hand of prepping for the 2017 show season and cramming in every last winter clinic they can get their hands on, there is also a faction of equestrians who live hard, play hard, and wear many hats of each.
If you’re an equestrian of the space geek variety, you might have had a good cry into your horse’s neck this week about the passing of Star Wars icon and animal rights activist Carrie Fisher, most famous for her role as Princess Leia. (But equally beloved by yours truly as the best friend in ‘When Harry Met Sally’.)
In which case, this sweet little moment from the internets might be a balm on your space nerd wounds: 17-year-old Lara Van Tonderr of South Africa recently welcomed a stunning black filly with white socks into the world, and named the little beauty “Leia”.
If she’s anything like her namesake, she’ll be a brave and feisty little fighter who will win the hearts of many. Her owner Lara is an amateur photographer who currently competes aboard a New Zealand Thoroughbred mare named Squidgey. May the Force Be With You, Lara and Leia!
Go Jumping.
